Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) will invest $68b in transport
Capital of UAE – Abu Dhabi plans to develop an efficient transportation system in order to reduce traffic congestion in the city. The Abu Dhabi government is expected to spend $68b dollars on public transportations between now and 2015.
Abu Dhabi will use the Urban Street Design Manual which was developed by Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) in cooperation with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Transport (DoT) in order to lessen the congestion the reduce dependency on cars.
The plan will include an implementation of a public transit network like high speed rail and buses. About 40 metro stations which will handle 40,000 to 70,000 travellers will also be introduced.
The design will emphasize high quality urban design which will cater to all modes of transportation including cycle tracks and bicycle lanes.
UPC’s 2030 vision is to create innovative street designs that will provide choice of movement by walking, cycling and public transport modes and will be implemented through this project.
The construction is expected to start on 2011 and expected to complete the first segment of the project on 2015. By 2010 the project is expected to be completed.
